Emma Watson answers fans' questions! Jan
8, 2004 GMT
Q: Tell us about trying out for the Harry Potter movies. I imagine you were scared and nervous, were you? What did
the director ask you to do? Were you surprised when you were told you had the part?
A: Really nervous. I wanted
the role so so badly. It wasn't always the director, most of my auditions were taped, some auditions were lines from Harry
Potter, others were just talking about myself. I was so excided I had the part, I didn't know what to do!! Q: How
was having a successful acting career changed your everyday life?
A: Not that much really, I still have the
same friends and I still do the same things.
Q: When you were little did you ever dream of being an actress?
A: When I was three, my grandma has
me on camera telling her I wanted to be a princess, a fairy, and an actress... at least one came true!
Q: How often do you see your family?
A: Not as often as I would like, but I go home every night, and
I have weekends and stuff.
Q: What do you like best about being in Harry Potter movies?
A: The acting really at the end of the
day. I love performing. I love the character I am playing. The opportunities it is bringing me, the people I am working with,
the different places it takes me, it's amazing.
Q: Have you read all of the books? Which ones were your favorites?
A: I love the Harry Potter books.
I was reading the third book (Prisoner of Azkaban) before I even started auditioning!
Q: Can you tell us a little about what your daily schedule is like, as an actress in these movies?
A:
My typical day is as follows:
- Pick-up
- Hair/make-up, costume (4 hours)
- 3 hours of tutoring and filming are both dependent
- 1 hour for lunch
- ADR, Publicity, Learning Lines Q: Was there anything from the books that was left out of the
movies that you thought should be in them?
A: Not really, I think they did a great job of picking out the best
bits and putting them into the film.
Q: Are you still considering doing the fourth film, or do you want to move on to different movies?
A:
I will be doing film four, as for the future, just going with the flow, see what happens.
Yam! interview
Thanks to Emma Watson Empire for posting an interview that Emma did with the German magazine Yam! a while back, sometime before Order of the Phoenix was released.
You can read the original in German here, or their English translation here.
I also took the liberty of tweaking the translation a bit, so here's my version of the interview:
Yam!:
Hermione and you - are you soulmates?
Emma: Not totally. I don't like to go to school as much as she does.
And I surely have better taste in clothes. For that, I spend all my money (laugh)! Besides, Hermione is quite well-behaved
and seems therefore sometimes a little like a striver. I'm definitely not like that. However one similarity we do have: Hermione
likes cats, and I have two of my own. They are called Bubbles and Domino.
Yam!: Because of your role, you are
an idol for many girls. How do you handle this?
Emma: Oh, I can handle it easily. Actually I don't take it
too seriously. I'm just happy about getting so much fan mail - even from China and Japan! It's obvious that the kids like
Hermione. She is the total Power-Girl. She is smart, knows what she wants, and is very loyal.
Yam!: Surely
you get fan mail from boys. Has there been a marriage proposal?
Emma: No, not yet. Maybe because I love to
play hockey. That isn't very ladylike.
Yam!: How do you get on with the boys at the set? Are you playing pranks
on each other?
Emma: Oh, yeah. Once Daniel Radcliffe brought a remote-controlled whoopie cushion. That was
really funny...
Yam!: Do you spend your spare time with each other?
Emma: No, but we hang together
the most part of the school year anyway. We see each other nearly every day.
Yam!: Has your life changed because
of Harry Potter?
Emma: No, hardly. Of course, I get more attention from people who recognize me as Hermione.
That's it. And naturally I'm more rarely at home with my family than before.
Yam!: Do you believe in magic
or higher powers?
Emma: It depends on the magic. There are many kinds. I don't believe in the rabbit which
is pulled out of a hat. Here's something I remember: once I was disguised at Halloween as a witch - now I'm acting one! I
wouldn't have thought of something like this in my wildest dreams.
Yam!: Have you been before your role a Harry
Potter fan?
Emma: Yes, from the beginning. I hope the fifth book finally gets released, so I know how the story
continues.
Yam!: In one scene you're shaking hands with Ron very hesitantly. In seems as if there is something
to come between you two...
Emma: No idea, you have to ask the screenplay author. Privately anyhow, there isn't
something between Rupert and me - witch's honour!
